Interestingly, certain kinds of coffee seem to help people with intermittent fasting, a scientifically-supported health trend. Intermittent fasting and coffee (low roast coffee, especially) seem to go hand in hand.
It seems like lately, everyone and their mothers are intermittent fasting (IF). And maybe you are, too! Or maybe you’re wondering what all the hype is about. We were, too, particularly as we learned that intermittent fasters love our Original Gold. More on that later…
For those who are new, intermittent fasting simply means eating during certain times of the day, fasting during others. You might be thinking, “don’t I already do this between meals?” And the answer is “well, maybe, kind of, but not exactly.”
There are a number of different intermittent fasting plans and schedules, but the most popular is to eat all your meals within an eight-hour window and fast overnight for 16 hours. You might be thinking, “why would anyone do that?!” After a quick google search, our skepticism was replaced with keen interest to try. Here are a few benefits that piqued our interest:
- Boost Your Memory: A study published by Brain and Behavior found that the ketones released by fat cells during IF trigger the production of a protein that promotes neuron growth in the hippocampus - a part of the brain that’s involved in forming new memories and learning.
- Lower Your Risk: During IF, insulin levels are lowered, as less is needed to regulate blood sugar. Over time, your body will become less resistant to insulin and can more efficiently manage your blood sugar. A study by the National Institute of Aging suggests that this could lower risk for Type 2 diabetes.
- Support Fat Loss: Studies have also shown that IF encourages the body to tap into its fat stores for energy rather than relying on a recently consumed meal. When done in conjunction with your regular exercise routine, IF could help you burn fat faster!
If that sounds like something you’re interested in, we would highly recommend reading up a bit more on IF (we lovedthis article from Well and Good)! Some of the Gold Brew Crew live the 8:16 life and love the effects. Moreover, the Crew and our Midas Members who IF love our original because it gives them the caffeine they need to jumpstart their day while still being gentle on an empty stomach. Plus, with nothing but coffee beans included, our original doesn’t spike blood sugars or make you crave a meal.
